Helping Families Save

At Northeast Cremation Service, we believe that a professional, dignified service should be accessible to every family. Our memorial and graveside ceremonies are 30% or more affordable than traditional funeral homes.

Comparison figures reflect average published prices across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine as of 2025. Cremation with memorial service figures are based on US Funerals Online midpoint data and include the cremation and an urn. The traditional funeral figure reflects a full-service burial including casket, and excludes cemetery costs such as the plot, vault, and opening and closing fees. All figures exclude cash advances such as death certificates, officiant honoraria, and other third-party charges. Northeast Cremation Service's price of $2,495 is for our cremation with memorial service package. Individual prices vary by provider, location, and the specific selections a family makes. Figures are provided for general comparison and do not represent a quote.

Services Comparison

What is a Memorial Service

  • A memorial service is a farewell ceremony held to honor and say goodbye to a loved one.
  • It is held after cremation, with the cremated remains present in an urn rather than a casket.
  • The service includes traditional rituals such as readings, music, and shared memories, similar to a standard funeral.
  • Services can be held at a church, community hall, or any other meaningful location.
  • Afterwards, families may choose to inter the urn at a cemetery, keep it at home, or scatter the remains at a place of significance.

What is a Graveside Service

  • A graveside service is a brief farewell ceremony held outdoors at the burial site.
  • The cremated remains are present in an urn at the gravesite during the service.
  • It typically includes prayers, readings, and final words shared by family and friends.
  • It is held at a cemetery or other burial grounds.
  • The burial takes place at the conclusion of the service, with loved ones present.

Questions About the Memorial Service

  • What is a memorial service?

We're an online focused cremation service with all arrangements being done online. No visit to a funeral home is necessary. This simplifies and streamlines the process for you while also allowing us to keep our costs down. If a death has occurred or is expected to occur in the next few days, click on the Make Arrangement link in the top bar to access our online arrangement tool. Afterwards, give us a call to report a death and we’ll take care of everything else.

  • Where can the memorial service be held?

Wherever is meaningful to your family. We hold services at churches, community halls, function rooms, gardens, and other venues across Greater Boston. Many families choose a place that meant something to their loved one. We handle the coordination so you can focus on the gathering itself.

  • What is a graveside service

We serve families in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, within 90 miles of our locations in Biddeford, Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. If the distance is a bit beyond that, we can still help for an additional $5 per mile past the 90-mile radius.

  • Can a graveside service be held for cremated remains?

Yes. Many families choose to inter cremated remains at a cemetery, either in a plot or a columbarium niche, with a graveside ceremony to mark the moment. We coordinate the service and work with the cemetery on your behalf.

  • Do I have to pay separately for the cremation?

Northeast Cremation Service does not offer any funeral or memorial services, but our affiliate funeral homes do. If you're interested, please call us to speak with a funeral director who will go over options with you at no charge.

  • Can we have the urn present at the service?

Yes. You can make arrangements through our website at any time. The price is $1,195 when arrangements are made before your loved one has passed. When you prepay, the funds are held in a funeral trust opened in your name. We are required by funeral regulations to keep that money separate and cannot use it for anything else. If you ever change your mind, we can refund the money at any time or transfer it to another funeral home.

  • Can we personalize the service?

You can pick up the remains at our location at no charge. If you prefer, we can ship them to you. Shipping within Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts is $95. Shipping anywhere else in the continental US is $195.

  • Who leads the service?

We are not able to work with state assistance programs at this time. We only accept credit and debit card as payment. Your local DTA office can provide a list of providers that accept those programs.

  • Is the price really complete, or are there hidden fees?

The price is complete for the services needed for a cremation and a memorial or graveside service. There are no hidden fees, but there are additional services and merchandise available for purchase if you choose. The only separate costs are unavoidable third-party charges, like certified death certificate copies or, for a graveside service, cemetery fees. We disclose those clearly before you commit, and we pass them through at cost. You also have the option of paying third parties charges directly to the third party.

  • Which areas do you serve?

We serve families within a 90-mile radius of our main offices in Portsmouth, NH. Both the Greater Boston and Greater Portland area are covered. If you are unsure whether we can help in your location, just call and ask.

  • Can we plan a service in advance?

Yes, and we highly encourage it. Planning ahead lets you make decisions calmly, without the pressure of grief, and lock in today's pricing. Planning ahead also lets you pay the preneed price which is less than the at-need price. It is also one of the most caring things you can do for your family, sparing them difficult choices later. Ask us about pre-planning when you call.
